Canoe or Kayak Southern and Coastal Mississippi

The Pearl River system is made up of the Pearl River and the Strong, Bogue Chitto, Chipisaw and Magee's creeks and rivers. The latter rivers and creeks feed into the Pearl River itself. The Pearl, taken as a whole is a bit unusual in it's combination of features like a 33,000 acre reservoir, swamps at its beginning and end, and a fork towards its end. All the waterways in the system feature abundant wild life while some are very popular with paddlers, tubers and swimmers in the summer months. They vary in the degree of canoeability and the degree to which they present challenges. All present immense natural scenic beauty and opportunities for viewing wildlife.

 Canoe or Kayak Coastal Mississippi

The Mississippi Gulf Coast, though one wouldn't expect it, offers opportunities for paddling, both on salt and fresh water. There are the Davis, Halstead, and stark bayous, and the Gulf Islands National Seashore. For the skilled, knowledgeable, and adventurous, trips to islands on the sound aren't out of the question either. The Biloxi, Wolf, and Jourdan rivers also offer varying opportunities, challenges and experiences for paddle boaters.
